Yumvelope - April 2014

Yumvelope is an all-natural snack subscription that guarantees 6+ full-size artisanal snacks for $21 per month. I received a discount on my first month's subscription, and also received a bonus item so I was quite pleased with the overall value. Yumvelope is a great way to try brands you may not have heard of or even small batch snack items. Let's take a look at the goods:
This packaging screams "spring" to me. The bright colors and bold graphics are incredibly inviting and I can't wait to see what's inside the box. Although, isn't this supposed to be an envelope? I'm uncertain if they've recently changed their packaging or if this is just due to the extra item in this month's selection. Will have to investigate further.
Plenty to love about this description card. I'm learning about what items are included, their value, why they've been included in this box, and a point of reference if I'd like to purchase more of the item in future or just learn a little bit about the brand/company. Regarding the value, I like that they've also detailed the corresponding measurement for calculating that value.
This box looks like it's filled with plenty of snacky goodness. Let's take a look at the individual items.
I am by no means gluten-intolerant, but I know what effect it has on my body and I prefer to curtail its presence in my diet as much as possible. That being said, I've had terrible experiences thus far with gluten-free baked goods. Yumvelope says this is one of their most requested items so I'm definitely keen to see if they live up to their reputation. Both flavors are intriguing, but I have a penchant for anything lemon-flavored so the Lemon-E Poppy will most likely get devoured first.
Retail Value: $3.99 per pack.
C and I will be cooking up some spring minestrone with the arrival of our Blue Apron subscription this week, so these crackers will definitely come in handy.
Retail Value: About $3.80 for 2 oz.
Chocolate will never be unwelcome in my house. With the short blast of cold weather we've gotten this week I'm looking forward to pairing these chocolates with a hot chai.
Retail Value: $1.69 per bar.
I have a rather tumultuous relationship with eggs. Much like the character Julia Roberts played in Runaway Bride, I haven't really discovered yet a favorite way to eat eggs. Full disclosure - I've only had them scrambled or in an omelette. And even then I prefer them seasoned to death or covered in hot sauce and salsa. I'm all for giving new things the old college try, so I will be certain to "dress" my eggs with this and only this to get the full experience. It smells delicious, and how fantastic is that packaging? Spices in tins are always a win for me.
Retail Value: $3.50
Total Value: Just over $22.
The monthly cost of this subscription is $21, and my total value calculation does include the regular retail price of the additional item I received. I think an important factor in weighing the value of signing up for Yumvelope is that each box is carefully curated. I've also been introduced to a number of brands I'd never heard of prior, and I'm looking forward to trying every item.
